Scientists and physicians are increasingly presenting evidence that alcohol is bad for healthness. But red wine would be an exception, and may even do well, some say. Is this really true?
An important point before presenting the benefits of wine is that, as Dr. Drauzio Varella (a famous Brazilian doctor) said in the video below, replacing one disease with another would be a mistake, but wine consumption with responsibility and self-control (avoiding alcoholism) can help prevent some diseases and improve the quality of life.
1. Drink wine every day helps reduce the risk of heart attack and other cardiovascular diseases.
A study of 38,000 men over the age of 40 showed that a person who took at least two doses of 5 mg of alcohol per day decreased the risk of myocardial infarction by up to 31%.
Red wine is made from grapes that contain micronutrients known as polyphenols. They act as antioxidants and can protect the body against some diseases and still fight against aging. Polyphenols protect both cells and other natural body chemicals from free radical damage.
2. Wine helps prevent cavities.
Wine (especially red wine) can help prevent tooth decay. It has benefits in strengthening enamel and gums due to the presence of polyphenols. They also help in reducing bleeding gums and mouth ulcers.
3. Red Wine has Anti-inflammatory and Anti-coagulation properties.
The American Chemical Society has found that the phenols found in wine prevent platelet aggregation, thereby fighting thromboses that can occlude the lining of blood vessels. It also has blood thinning properties and scores higher than aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid) in this regard. Aspirin is usually taken as a preventative measure for heart attacks.
4. The consumption of wine helps in fertility.
Many couples may have never had this problem, but sometimes getting pregnant is not that simple. This is due to a number of characteristics of the female organism that can make a pregnancy take up to a year or two to arrive. In the same way that is not known why this happens, the Danish Center for Epidemiological Science, after a huge survey, found that drinking wine regularly decreased almost a third of the waiting time among 30.000 women studied.
5. It increases desire and sexual satisfaction.
A study published in The Journal of Sexual Medicine, conducted with 798 Italian women from the Chianti region aged between 18 and 50 who did not complain of any sexual dysfunction, concluded that those who consume two glasses of wine per day show an increase in desire and sexual satisfaction. This is because red wine compounds increase blood flow in specific areas of the body. The search link is here.
But remember: anything that is overdone is bad, so drink in moderation!
